Reset Cisco IP Phone 7900 Series to Factory Default
You can perform a reset to factory default of the Cisco 7940, 7941, 7960, 7961 and 7970 IP phones and this is useful for many types of recovery, especially when the phone is so disabled that it cannot enter Network Configuration to reset to factory default.
Complete below steps to reset Cisco IP Phone 7900 series to factory default.
1. Unplug the power cable from the IP phone, and then plug in the cable again. The IP phone begins its power up cycle.
2. Immediately press and hold # key and while the Headset, Mute, and Speaker buttons begin to flash in sequence, next release # key.
3. Press 123456789*0# within 60 seconds after the Headset, Mute, and Speaker buttons begin to flash.
4. Press 1 to keep network configuration or 2 to lose the network configuration.
If you repeat a key within the sequence, for example, if you press 1223456789*0#, the sequence is still accepted and the phone resets.
If you do not complete this key sequence or do not press any keys, after 60 seconds the Headset, Mute, and Speaker buttons no longer flash, and the phone continues with its normal startup process. The phone does not reset.
If you enter an invalid key sequence, the buttons no longer flash, and the phone continues with its normal startup process. The phone does not reset.

I am not able to reset a Cisco 7940 (Sip) to factory default.

Hi Sami,
Fallow below steps to reset Cisco IP Phone 7900 series to Factory default.
Simply hold down the # key while you power-cycle the phone. (If you already have the SIP firmware loaded, simply press * and 6 and Settings at the same time, and the phone will reboot. Then press and hold the # key while it boots.)
After a second or two, the phone display will say:
Reset key sequence detected
The headset, mute, and speakerphone lights will cycle. Now, simply press the following keys:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 * 0 #
Now, the phone will ask you whether or not you want to save your network configuration. I usually press 2 for no.
Save network cfg? 1=yes 2=no
The display will then say:
Factory reset initiated
and the phone will continue to boot.
Thanks,
Peri
